ROCKVILLE – A game against a potential boys’ basketball sectional opponent was always going to be cagey as North Putnam travelled to Parke Heritage Saturday night.

The difference between the two teams was minimal in several areas but one team had Treigh Schelsky and the other did not as the freshman poured in 30 points to lead the Wolves to a 56-40m win over the Cougars.

While Max Dowd got the hosts off to a 3-0 start, it was Schelsky who ensured Parke Heritage (3-2) would hold a lead after a quarter of play, scoring the next eight points for the home team after Mason Garriott had given North Putnam (3-2) a 5-3 lead with a three and Isaac Pickel put the Cougars back in front twice with baskets around the rim.

A patient Wolves team took control in the second quarter, scoring all four field goal attempts inside the arc with Schelsky scoring seven-straight points for the hosts and Dowd Scoring the last five of the half.

North Putnam’s offense stalled at the same time, unable to connect from the outside while only getting three baskets to find itself trailing 25-15 at halftime.

Nolan Hackleman started off the second half with a three and briefly cut the lead to seven after two free throws at 29-22 but Renn Harper hit a three on the other end and the Wolves kept the lead around double-digits much of the quarter, taking a 39-27 lead into the final eight minutes of play.

Unable to get shots to fall at a fast enough clip, the visitors began to send Parke Heritage to the foul line and the hosts were able to salt the game away by going 13-of-19 from the stripe while the Cougars were only 4-of-11 at the same spot.

Schelsky led all scorers with 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field while Dowd finished with 16 points. Pickel was the only North Putnam player in double figures with 10 points.
