Greencastle man arrested for driving 117 mph in work zone

PLAINFIELD — A Greencastle man was booked into the Hendricks County Jail early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving more than twice the posted speed limit in a work zone.

Indiana State Police also allege that 45-year-old Luis Fernandez was drunk at the time.

Sgt. John Perrine, public information officer of the ISP Indianapolis Post, first reported via social media Tuesday morning, “Master Trooper Joel Flores arrested a drunk driver on I-70 in Hendricks County this morning. The man was driving 117️mph in a 55️-mph construction zone.”

Perrine reported that the first clock of the vehicle was 117 mph, but the laser locked in at 113 mph.

The incident occurred at 3:48 a.m., with Fernandez booked into jail at 5:35 a.m. on charges of driving while intoxicated endangering a person, driving with an ACE of .15 or more, reckless driving and reckless driving in a highway work zone.

“I’m glad Master Trooper Flores was in position to get this dangerous person off the road,” Perrine wrote.
