Marietta Holtel entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, after 96 years of living life to the fullest.

She was born on May 31, 1926, to Oscar and Zella (O’Hair) Kinsey in Morristown.

Marietta grew up on the streets of Morristown with her lifetime friend, Bob Wortman, while her parents opened and operated the well-known Bluebird Restaurant.

Marietta graduated from Morristown High School in 1944.

She married Robert Hurst in 1944, who preceded her in death in 1970.

Marietta was a valued and loyal employee of L. S. Ayres for 39 years.

In 1981, she married William Holtel, who passed away in 1982. Bill’s daughters, Nancy Thurman and Susan Jensen, survive.

Marietta moved from Morristown to Greencastle in 1996. She joined the Greencastle Baptist Church where her membership remained.

In 2016, she moved to a retirement community in Brownsburg to be close to her caregivers, Bobbi Canada and Pat Martin. While there, Marietta was an active participant in all activities, especially enjoying Bible study and bingo. She appointed herself as the welcome committee and made many friends in her six- and one-half years at The Oaks at Brownsburg.

Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Marietta will be laid to rest with a private graveside service at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
