Guinivere Maxine Lacey

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Guinivere (Guin) Maxine Lacey was born in Boswell to Lenore Trueblood.

Guin and her brother, Harold, had a modest childhood and in 1945, Guin moved to Indianapolis to take up employment at Indiana Bell.

In 1946, Guin met and married James Lacey, and daughter Patricia followed shortly thereafter.

Guin worked for Indiana Bell for 30 years, and upon retirement settled in Roachdale on a small farm.

Guin flourished in Roachdale and was a devoted member of Roachdale Christian Church.

She quickly became an expert vegetable farmer and her veggie “patch” grew in size every year to contain an astonishing number and variety of plants. Summers were spent tending to the garden and entering her produce in the Putnam County Fair, which resulted in numerous prize ribbons. Guin relished in beating the “old men” in the vegetable divisions at the fair and always attributed her garden’s success to hard work and the fact that it was established on a former hog pen (her “secret weapon” as she liked to call it). Guin was also renowned for her pies, of which rhubarb was her specialty.

Guin spent her winters with her craft club and volunteering at the Putnam County Senior Center. She loved to play euchre and was a much sought-after card partner.

Those who knew Guin would know that her best attribute was her unwavering positive outlook. She embraced life and cherished her fitness and independence. Guin was always generous with her time and smile. The last few years were a challenge as Guin’s health faltered, but her friends and family can take solace in knowing that she is now with her lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Guin is survived by her daughter, Patricia Modlin; grandson Brandt Modlin (wife Kacey); granddaughter Amanda Macdonald (husband Stewart); and great-grandchildren Emmie Modlin, Hugh Macdonald and Roy Macdonald.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 26 in Roachdale Cemetery, 4178 E. State Rd. 236, Roachdale, IN 46172.
