County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 12:09 a.m. Justin N. Taylor, 23, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for false identity statement, false informing and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Wednesday

• At 11:40 p.m. Guy H. Parrish, 35, South Bend, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 9:40 p.m. Destiny C. Conover, 26, Poland, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

• At 5:24 p.m. Lectie R. Stidham, 54, Summitville, Ind., was booked in on a warrant.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent crashes.

• At midnight on Thursday, Pamela L. Innis, 60, Quincy, was southbound on State Road 75 just south of U.S. 36 in Hendricks County in a 2011 Toyota RAV4 when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Josh Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8:07 a.m. on Wednesday, Melissa S. Powers, 36, Coatesville, was southbound on Heritage Drive in a 2022 Kia Forte when she hit a deer.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 incidents since last Wednesday evening:

• At 6:57 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched on a box alarm for a possible structure fire in the area of 6857 N. U.S. 231 (Nine Mile). Firefighters arrived at 7:10 and were unable to locate a fire in the area. The Bainbridge, Clinton Township and Bellmore volunteer fire departments also responded. GFD went back into service at 7:20 p.m.

• At 11:44 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched for a small dumpster fire at Happy Pawz Animal Boarding & Grooming. Firefighters arrived at 11:51 and extinguished the fire. It was determined that rags ignited after being soaked in a chemical. GFD went back into service at 12:10 a.m. Thursday morning.

• At 9:32 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 1048 E. CR 200 North for a carbon monoxide detector activation. Firefighters arrived at 9:42 and determined that the detector had malfunctioned. The batteries were removed and the homeowner was advised to replace the detector. GFD went back into service at 10:05 a.m.

• At 12:01 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a person trapped in an elevator. Firefighters arrived at 12:04 and freed the individual. GFD went back into service at 12:11 p.m.

• At 5:53 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 401 Melrose Ave. for an odor investigation. Firefighters arrived at 5:59 and were advised by the homeowner that a space heater fell over and burned a rug. Told that this would be taken care of, GFD went back into service at 6:02 p.m.

• At 9:38 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Sigma Alpha Epsilon at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:43 and found water flooding from the second-floor ceiling to the basement. The sprinkler system was shut off and the issue was turned over to DePauw Public Safety. GFD went back into service at 10:12 p.m.

• At 3:19 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Walmart Distribution for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:23 and found water flowing out of a door. It was determined that a sprinkler burst, and the sprinkler system was shut off and drained. The issue was turned over to maintenance, and GFD went back into service at 4:01 p.m.

• At 4:29 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Putnam Plaza for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:34 and could not locate an alarm in any of the businesses there. GFD went back into service at 4:56 p.m.

• At 5:17 p.m. on Sunday, GFD received a direct call for a sprinkler activation at 909 Zinc Mill Terrace Dr. Firefighters arrived at 5:20 and found water flowing into three apartments. The sprinkler system was shut off and drained, and maintenance was contacted. GFD went back into service at 5:46 p.m.

• At 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Chiyoda USA for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:03 p.m. and found a broken sprinkler head. The sprinkler system was shut off and drained and maintenance was notified. GFD went back into service at 7:50 p.m.

• At 6:22 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to The Valyrian Place for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:29 and determined the alarm was due to burnt food. The property was ventilated and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:42 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed 10 medical assists during this timeframe.
