Sharon Klepper Walters

Sharon Klepper Walters, 82, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital following complications from a recent surgery.

Sharon was born on Feb. 5, 1940 in Lawrenceburg, Ind., to Ezra and Kathleen Klepper, and was a graduate of Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati in 1961.

Mrs. Walters worked as a registered nurse in several positions and prior to her retirement in 2002, she served as nurse manager of the Oncology Clinic at Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle.

Sharon was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where she served as a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, member of the Ladies Guild and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

She was a member of Greencastle Women’s Club, PEO Chapter I and Tuesday Reading Circle.

Sharon was preceded in death by her dear husband, Gordon Walters Jr., in 2008; her parents; brother Patrick Shane Klepper; sister Saundra Mary Klepper and her mother and father-in-law, Gordon and Stella Walters.

Surviving are her two daughters, Tanya Walters Eltzroth and husband Loren, and Rachel Walters Burgan and husband Blake; grandchildren Aryn Marie Eltzroth, Nicholas Gordon Eltzroth and significant other Kayla Bailey, Sarah Burgan Kelly and husband Stephen Kelly, Emma Claire Burgan, Benjamin Owen Burgan and Molly Walters Burgan. Sharon is also survived by her loving brother, Steven Klepper and his wife Peggy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sharon thanked God daily for her faith, devoted husband and her loving children and grandchildren. She was a good friend and neighbor and had a wonderful life.

She was grateful for the opportunity to travel with her husband to France, England, Ireland and Italy and enjoyed exploring many of the national parks in the U.S.

Visitation will take place on Friday, Dec. 30 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St., Greencastle, from 4-6 p.m. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Dec. 31 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Greencastle at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
