Live Christmas tree recycling set through Jan. 29

Monday, January 2, 2023

The West Central Solid Waste District is encouraging Putnam and Parke county residents to dispose of their live Christmas trees at four locations through Jan. 29.

Persons may recycle their trees free of charge at the following sites:

• Greencastle yard waste site, 2363 S. CR 250 West, Greencastle;

• Lieber State Recreation Area office, 1317 W. Lieber Rd., Ste. 1, Cloverdale, three miles south of Interstate 70 on State Road 243;

• Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area, 1588 S. Raccoon Pkwy., Rockville, at the Bluebird Shelter parking lot; and

• Rockville Lake Park, 828 N. Marshall Rd., Rockville, where trees should be left at the sign at the base of the barn.

Recycling natural trees diverts them from the landfill, helps provide habitat areas for fish and wildlife, aids in erosion control and provides beneficial mulch for gardens, trees and walking paths.

Residents wanting trees that have only been collected at the Greencastle yard waste site may call the WCSWD office. All other trees will be used by the park or community affiliated with the collection site.

All decorations should be removed, and plastic bags and trash should not be left at the sites.

For more information, visit www.westcentralswd.com, find the WCSWD on Facebook or call the office at 653-2150.
