Carrington, Murphy finish as runners-up at North Montgomery Holiday Duals

Greencastle’s Chase Carrington battled but ultimately came up short against Rochester’s Greyson Gard 7-2 in the final at 152 pounds in the individual tournament of the North Montgomery Holiday Duals.

CRAWFORDSVILLE – Greencastle’s Chase Carrington and North Putnam Lucas Murphy both finished as runner-up in the individual tournament on the second day of the North Montgomery Holiday Duals last weekend.

Carrington lost in the final at 152 pounds to Rochester’s Greyson Gard 7-2 while Murphy was on the wrong end of a 7-1 loss to Harrison’s Carlos Perez-Xochipa.

The pair were among five wrestlers between the two schools to place in the individual tournament with Cougars Corie Stancombe ending with a third-place finish at 113 pounds, and Arrick Kramer finishing fourth at 182 pounds while Tiger Cub Dylan Archer finished sixth at 106 pounds in the field which included the 16 teams that took part in the team duals the day before.

North Putnam finished sixth overall in the team duals with a 3-2 record while Greencastle finished 12th overall with a 1-4 mark.

The Cougars started the day with a win over North Central (Indianapolis) 37-34 with Owen O’Hair, Stancombe, Braden Glaze, Murphy, Kramer, Hank Wood and Trevor Roseboom all picking up wins.

New Haven would win the pool with a win 49-25 over North Putnam as Kramer, Roseboom, Wesley Murphy, Jacob Land and Lucas Murphy picking up wins.

A 48-36 win over Muncie Central, with Lucas Murphy, Kramer, Stancombe, Kaleb Walton, Quenton Brown, William Smith, Kyler Hankins and Glaze picking up victories, saw the Cougars enter the fifth-through-eighth place bracket.

There, the Cougars defeated Hanover Central 42-30 With O’Hair, Stancombe, Wes Murphy, Brown, Smith, Glaze, Land and Lucas Murphy getting wins.

North Putnam’s Lucas Murphy finished as runner-up, falling 7-1 to Harrison’s Carlos Perez-Xochipa, in the finals at 170 pounds in the individual tournament of the North Montgomery Holiday Duals.

The final match saw Noblesville run North Putnam over 60-22 with Stancombe, Brown, Lucas Murphy and Roseboom getting wins.

Greencastle, meanwhile, started its day off right with a win over the Warren Central reserve squad 42-39 as Carrington, Archer, Anthony Peter, David Olson, Cayden Blodgett, Orion Bowser and Tyler Sandusky picked up wins.

It would be the highlight of the day as the Tiger Cubs ran into a strong Harrison team next in a 60-21 loss with Olson, Blodgett, Tucker Elkins and Carrington picking up wins.

Hanover Central won the last dual of the pool round 52-28 with Archer, Blodgett, Elkins, Carrington and Olson getting wins.

In the ninth-through-12th place pool, North Central started off with a 60-14 win over the Tiger Cubs with Archer, Carrington and Cameron Mager getting wins.

A final dual against WIC foe West Vigo also ended with defeat 36-30 as Peters, Olson, Blodgett, Bowser, Sandusky and Carrington picked up wins for Greencastle.

Rochester won the team duals over Harrison in the final with Rensselaer Central third over New Haven.

The Zebras also won the individual tournament team title with 227 points over the second-place Bombers (201). North Putnam finished 12th (64) with Greencastle 13th (36) overall.
