DePauw Chamber Symphony tour concert tonight

Monday, January 9, 2023

The DePauw Chamber Symphony plays its pre-tour concert tonight, Monday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium in the Green Center for the Performing Arts on the DePauw University campus.

Admission is free.

As a part of the 2023 Winter Term project for the ensemble, the Chamber Symphony will take its January tour to Austria and Germany and will feature a work by DePauw composer, Eliza Brown. Major performance venues in Vienna, Salzburg and Munich are on the tour, running from Jan. 10-19.

The orchestra plays at Vienna’s famed Musikverein in its new facility called the Glass Hall, Salzburg’s Mozarteum concert hall called the Solitär Room, and Munich’s Hall X, in a newly created Arts District. Along with concerts at the Vienna School for the Blind, and an Austrian ski resort in Flachau, “the different environments for the orchestra create important professional challenges to their developing musicianship,” Orcenith Smith, conductor of the Chamber Symphony, said.

The tour is sponsored in part by DePauw’s Hubbard Center and the DePauw School of Music.
