A fellow Republican seeking the city clerk-treasurer seat currently occupied by Lynda Dunbar is the only new filing for the May municipal primary in recent days.

Mikayla Johnson has filed to seek the Republican nod for the clerk-treasurer position that Dunbar will be vacating with her recent announcement that she will seek the mayor’s seat in the 2023 election.

Johnson’s bid makes three City of Greencastle candidates in the May 2 primary, with Ward 3 City Councilor Veronica Pejril seeking the Democrat nomination for a second term.

Most municipal seats in Putnam County will be on the ballot in 2023, including, though officials in smaller towns have traditionally run as independents, leaving the city the likely focus of the primary.

City positions on the ballot in May and November include mayor, clerk-treasurer and all seven council seats, including the four wards and three at-large positions.

Those wishing to seek the Republican or Democrat nomination for a municipal office may pick up the needed paperwork at the Putnam County Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse or under the Secretary of State’s page at www.in.gov.

All paperwork must be filed with the Voter Registration Office by noon on Feb. 3.
