Texas man discovered in possession of 22 pounds of cocaine on I-70
PLAINFIELD — A Texas man has been detained in the Hendricks County Jail after approximately 22 pounds of cocaine was found in the semi tractor he was driving Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 3:50 p.m., an Indiana State Trooper stopped a semi tractor-trailer for a motor carrier inspection on Interstate 70 near the 59-mile marker. The driver was identified as Jorge Bucio, age 37, of Weatherford, Texas.
During the course of the inspection and conversation with Bucio, the trooper detected criminal indicators, which raised the suspicion that illicit activity was occurring.
The Plainfield Police Department canine was called for assistance. A positive canine alert for the odor of illegal drugs led to the search of the semi tractor-trailer.
Indiana State Police report that during the search, the trooper discovered approximately 22 pounds of cocaine which was located in the sleeper berth. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $400,000.
Bucio, who was traveling from Arizona to Ohio, was taken into custody and transported to the Hendricks County Jail, where he was booked in on initial charges of Level 2 felony dealing narcotics and Level 3 felony possession of narcotics.
