Hammer, Langdon add names to GOP primary

Monday, January 16, 2023

The longest-serving councilman in City of Greencastle history will seek another term in office.

At-large Councilman Mark Hammer has filed paperwork for the Republican primary as he seeks an eighth term in office.

Likewise, Second Ward Councilor Stacie Langdon has filed to run for a third term.

The two councilors will be joined on the May 2 GOP ballot by Lynda Dunbar, the current clerk-treasurer who is seeking the mayor’s seat, and clerk-treasurer candidate Mikayla Johnson.

Thus far, there has been just one Democrat to file for the primary, with Veronica Pejril seeking a second term in the Third Ward council seat.

Most municipal seats in Putnam County will be on the ballot in 2023, though officials in smaller towns have traditionally run as independents, leaving the city the likely focus of the primary.

City positions on the ballot in May and November include mayor, clerk-treasurer and all seven council seats, including the four wards and three at-large positions.

Those wishing to seek the Republican or Democrat nomination for a municipal office may pick up the needed paperwork at the Putnam County Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse or under the Secretary of State’s page at www.in.gov.

The Voter Registration Office is open during regular hours of the Putnam County Courthouse, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

All paperwork must be filed with the Voter Registration Office by noon on Feb. 3.

Independents seeking office in the city or towns face a deadline of Monday, July 3. The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 7.
