James I. Fortune

James I. Fortune, 70, of Cloverdale, passed away Jan. 24, 2023 in his residence.

Born March 14, 1952 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Mark Fortune and Nellie (Sering) Fortune.

James worked as an inspector at AT&T, where he retired after 31 years. He then worked at Crown Castle as a construction manager, retiring after 18 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Alaska for two years.

He loved fishing, camping, Colorado and Minnesota. He was scoutmaster of Troop 106 for five years in Indianapolis, the same troop that he and his brothers were members of. His son earned his Eagle badge under him.

He also loved meeting his cronies at Lou’s Diner in Cloverdale.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Fortune (McCleary); daughter Kristina Walters (Roy) of Cloverdale; son Tim Fortune (Gwynn) of Indianapolis; grandchildren Madison Bewley (Nathan) of Darlington, Shania Fortune ofIndianapolis, Miranda Fortune of Indianapolis, Ellavia Best of Indianapolis and Taliesin Best of Indianapolis; great-grandkids Elleanor Bewley and Raymond Bewley; a brother, Mark “Bill” Fortune of Butlerville, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents; brothers Mike, Pat and Tom Fortune; and sister Susie Fortune preceded him in death.
