Dixie Chopper acquires original factory facility

The old Dixie Chopper facility east of Fillmore is new again as the company has re-acquired the facility to assemble its zero-turn lawn mowers.

FILLMORE -- Dixie Chopper has finalized its purchase of the former manufacturing facility located in Coatesville. The original family farm property where Dixie Chopper was born is now the new (old) home for the assembly of mowers.

“I can remember where we drew the frame design on the barn floor with chalk for the first production Dixie Chopper,” recalled Dixie Chopper Business Unit Manager Wes Evans, son of company founder Art Evans. “My team and I are very excited to move back to the Coatesville facility and continue building the World’s Fastest Lawn Mower.”

Dixie Chopper currently utilizes a facility (the so-called spec building built by Garmong for the City of Greencastle) on the East Side of Greencastle where it assembles zero-turn mowers and warehouse the parts department.

The transition to the new facility is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2023.

“We have absolutely outgrown the (current) facility,” said Lisa Tubbs, president of RhinoAg and Dixie Chopper. “In order to continue growing the Dixie Chopper business, it was imperative that we located a bigger building to facilitate this growth. The Coatesville building has such a sentimental value to the employees and we are ready to get moved in.”

The original facility – with 12.88 acres of property and 12,000 square feet of buildings -- was sold in July 2020 to a Zionsville man for a tire distribution center. Purchase price at that time was $1.5 million.
