Home destroyed in late-night weekend fire

A home in Warren Township is a total loss following a blaze that called upon multiple fire crews late Saturday evening.

A box alarm was activated at about 10:40 p.m. for a residential fire at 2610 Skyline Dr. Firefighters arrived on the scene to the structure fully engulfed and collapsing. A live power line down was also reported.

The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Greencastle Fire Department responded with engines, while the Reelsville and Fillmore volunteers and the Putnamville Correctional Facility came with tankers and manpower. Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were on standby, while Duke Energy arrived to cut the power.

The Cataract Volunteer Fire Department in Owen County covered Cloverdale Township Fire’s station during the response.

Apparatuses from five fire departments responded to the incident. Tankers were called to maintain a steady water supply.

While there were mechanical issues initially, water supply was stable as firefighters utilized two handlines on each end of the structure in a defensive effort.

The fire was marked out at about 11:30 p.m., after which overhaul was performed to find and extinguish remaining hot spots.

While no definite cause for the fire was determined due to the destruction’s extent, Cloverdale Township Fire Capt. Justin Shepherd noted that a wood-burning stove was being used at the time of the incident.

No injuries concerning the residents or personnel were reported in the operation.

Command of the scene was terminated at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Putnam County GIS, the property on which the home stood is listed to James Skinner.
