County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently

Monday

• At 1:35 a.m. Victoria K. Young, 31, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Thursday

• At 11:08 p.m. Kelvis D. Edmond, 44, Vincennes, was lodged at the jail on a Daviess County warrant.

• At 1:19 p.m. Darren S. Strange, 43, Brownsburg, was taken into custody for criminal recklessness with a firearm, criminal recklessness and criminal mischief.

• At 12:30 p.m. Charles E. Burdine, 54, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 3:57 a.m. Saturday, Damon Rivers, 47, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Taken into custody at a North Arlington Street residence, Rivers was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Putnam County warrant with an original charge of public intoxication.

• At 1:34 a.m. Saturday, Adam McCastle, 48, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Taken into custody at a Castlebury Apartments residence, McCastle was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for unauthorized absence from home detention.

• At 10:05 a.m. Friday, Daniel L. Rivers, 45, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Pettit.

Taken into custody at a West Jacob Street residence, Rivers was booked into the jail on Montgomery County warrants for failure to appear and violation of probation relative to an original charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Six individuals were issued summonses recently by city officers:

• At 11:28 p.m. Sunday, Ilir Veseli, 20, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Chris Helmer.

Stopped at Bloomington and Seminary streets, Veseli was issued a summons into court for possession of marijuana and was also ticketed for speeding, 42 mph in a 30-mph zone.

• At 10:10 p.m. Sunday, Harold Jones, 31, Greencastle, was cited by Officer DeWitt.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Jones was issued a summons for possession of a controlled substance.

• At 7:54 p.m. Sunday, Clifton Tuell, 58, Cloverdale, was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Tuell was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense and ticketed for a violation of the open container law.

• At 6:44 p.m. Sunday, Eric Dickerson, 37, Clayton, was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road at Judson Drive, Dickerson was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 7:32 a.m. Saturday, Natalie Kiger, 29, Spencer, was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped at Percy Julian Drive and Avenue F, Kiger was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 9:30 p.m. Jan. 29, Taylor Branson, 30, Brazil, was cited by Officer Angela Taylor.

Stopped at Veterans Memorial Highway and South Jackson Street, Branson was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent crashes.

• At 6:35 a.m. on Monday, Jessica L. Hirt, 45, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 200 West in a 2019 Hyundai Elantra when she hit a deer.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000. The car was towed.

• At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Ralph E. Dickey, 59, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2018 Dodge Challenger when he approached a vehicle making a left turn into a driveway. Crystal L. Hymes, 51, Greencastle, was also southbound, behind Dickey, in a 2017 GMC Sierra.

Dickey told Sgt. Anthony Brown he slowed for the vehicle that was turning, but observed Hymes in his rear view mirror, not slowing down. He said he attempted to pull left to avoid the collision, but to no avail.

Hymes told Brown she saw the other vehicles slowing or stopped but was unable to avoid Dickey’s car.

Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents since Saturday evening:

• At 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Chinda House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:46 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:49 p.m.

• At 6:06 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:10 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:24 p.m.

• At 6:17 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw-owned apartments at 301 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:18 and determined the alarm was due to hair care products. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:30 p.m.

• At 6:56 p.m. on Sunday, GFD received a direct call for a bonfire at 20 Frazier St. Firefighters arrived soon after and found that unauthorized articles were being used to fuel the fire. Firefighters advised of the city burn ordinance and the fire was extinguished. GFD went back into service at 7:09 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to 11 medical assists around this timeframe.
