Community invited to record video messages for GHS girls’ basketball team

Wednesday, February 15, 2023

With the Greencastle girls’ basketball team headed for just the second semistate in program history, community support is running high.

One way to support the team is to take part in a video message of encouragement ahead of Saturday’s 10 a.m. matchup with No. 2 Forest Park in the IHSAA Shelbyville Semistate.

Local businessman Vincent Aguirre has been asked to put together the video and is inviting submissions from the public at https://vocalvideo.com/c/greencastleGirlsBasketball

The recording can be done from a computer, tablet or phone without the installation of an app.

All video submissions should be completed by noon on Friday.

  • Nothing but the best for the basketball team. And it’s a bit disconcerting that the campaign website for a city council prospect is what is fielding the video request. Maybe instead of “local businessman”, the article could say “candidate”.

  • Seriously, could Vince make this any more about himself and less about the girls? A bit self-aggrandizing I think...

  • Thanks Vince for this opportunity to support our Girls! If anyone else has an idea to show our community support please share as well! Seriously can we please keep political comments out of this?

  • The link literally connects to his campaign website. There is no political commentary mentioned.

  • The best part is that I can win $100 by submitting a video. Great idea soured by shameless self-promotion. Way to take the attention off the team and make it about yourself.

Good luck to the girls. Not so much to Vince.

  • The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

~ George Washington, Farewell Address, 19 September 1796.

I hope we shall once more see harmony restored among our citizens, and an entire oblivion of past feuds. Some of the leaders who have most committed themselves cannot come into this. But I hope the great body of our fellow citizens will do it. I will sacrifice everything but principle to procure it.

~ Thomas Jefferson, To Samuel Adams, 29 March 1801

I'm honored to be a target of the banner graphic hate section. If anyone would like to get to know me before casting judgment feel free to give me a call (765) 276-8072

Let's address some of the accusations.

    1) This wasn't my idea. I was approached by someone to do this on their behalf because of my background in marketing.

    2) I did not asked to be called a local business person or have my name in the banner. I did however ask the banner to share the link.

    3) You may be surprised to hear this, but the video capturing tool cost money and the tools I will use to edit this cost money as well. Ok legally required to show that I'm a candidate when money is being transferred using campaign funds.

    4) I appreciate someone mentioning the 100 give away. I've contacted the software company and had that removed from this link.

    5) The video capturing website is not my campaign website, but if you're interested you can find that at GreencastleForward.com

Those who know me know I lead with generosity. If you're accusing me of something else I'd love meet you and prove you wrong.

Oh and Monica, where can I send you the files to help with editing? We start at noon Friday and need to be finished by morning.

  • Javabeans likely took a break from torturing small animals to leave a comment, so if you look at it that way, they're a good thing I guess

  • When McDonalds, Headleys, Dr. Henette’s office, or any other business with the tools and resources put a Good Luck Tiger Cubs message on their signs and display boards is your first thought, “Go Tiger Cubs” or “Wow, look at those businesses trying to make it about them by doing something nice for the Tiger Cubs?” As someone who knows Vince, Your witch hunt is way off. Two thoughts, 1) If you truly support the Tiger Cubs Basketball Team, then jump on board, film a video, and celebrate them. Heck, film and post your own video. If you ask Vince, he will probably tell you how to do it on your social media account. 2) If you think he only did it for self promotion and support a candidate who is not Vince, how about you spend less energy in tearing him, or any others down, and spend more time promoting your candidate. Trust me, I’ve seen the list and some of them are going to need more help.

UPDATE: Monica and I had a nice 15 minute phone call. While I don't think we came to any kind of agreement, she did agree to donate the $50 necessary to pay for the tool I am using. Her donation allows me to NOT use campaign funds and therefore I can remove campaign branding and disclaimers. Thanks, Monica!

Javabeans, feel free to give me a call 😊

  • Banner Graphic, please offer the option of responding to comments with eye roll emojis. I’d be all over that today.

  • It is a sad world we live in when someone is trying to do something positive and uplifting for our youth and people try to dissect it into something negative just to appease their own agendas. Thank you, Vince, for being strong enough to endure the hate comments. People are ridiculous !!
