Thursday, February 16, 2023

With less than two weeks remaining in meteorological winter -- by definition Dec. 1 through the end of February -- central Indiana continues well below normal for snow and above-normal temperature readings.

In fact, that 64-degree high recorded in Greencastle and most of central Indiana on Wednesday marked the warmest day since mid-November, according to the National Weather Service.

At this point in the season, central Indiana has totaled above-normal temperatures 75 percent of the time this winter with 57 days logged as such. Meanwhile, 17 days have been below normal, while three days have been considered normal for winter.

The area continues to be below normal in snowfall with less than half of the annual 25.5 inches of snow having fallen now. That is 11 inches below normal.

February normally produced 6.0 inches of snowfall in central Indiana, while March averages 3.2 inches.
