Driver transported in rollover Sunday

BELLE UNION — A motorist was transported with injuries that were not life-threatening in a rollover incident in Jefferson Township Sunday afternoon.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson Township volunteer firefighters were dispatched at about 2:40 p.m. to the area of 4160 S. CR 800 East for a motor vehicle incident with entrapment. They arrived to find an SUV on its side across the roadway.

Utilizing a backboard, firefighters extricated the driver by removing the rear hatch door and cutting the seatback. The effort was made within 20 minutes of their arrival.

The driver was transported by Putnam County EMS to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Meanwhile, a dog that was with him was not seriously hurt and taken by Putnam County Animal Control.

Units were back in service by 3:50 p.m. after the vehicle was picked up by a wrecker.
