Habitat asking for volunteers

Thursday, February 23, 2023

Putnam County’s Habitat for Humanity chapter is in the process of fundraising for a kitchen remodel project for a Greencastle veteran.

William Eiteljorge is a retired Vietnam War veteran who has had several mini-strokes since his retirement, while his wife Sharon has had two heart attacks since hers. As such, they have used funds set aside for remodeling their South Arlington Street home toward medical expenses.

The major issue with the home is its floor sagging, which creates a falling hazard and poses a risk to their well-being.

Habitat is reaching out to the community to help the Eiteljorges and are recruiting volunteers for the project. Those with experience in carpentry, floor laying, tiling and painting are needed in particular. The project will kick off as soon as the chapter has put together the necessary team.

Those seeking to volunteer may contact the Habitat office at 653-5630 or email putnamhabitat@gmail.com. Persons are asked to leave their name and phone number and detail tasks they want to be involved with.

Donations to the project may also be mailed to the office, located at 620 Tennessee St., Ste. 2, Greencastle.
