Adam Cohen resigns from First Ward City Council seat
Greencastle City Councilman Adam Cohen, in the final year of his fourth term on the Council, has announced his resignation, effective Feb. 27.
Citing health issues that have sidelined him since the November Council meeting, Cohen said he needs to focus on his recovery.
“I have served on the Greencastle City Council for many years and take great pride in all that we have accomplished. I hope to return to serving the community again in the not-too-distant future,” Cohen said in a letter to Mayor Bill Dory. “I greatly appreciate the comradeship and support that I have received from you and the rest of the Greencastle community.”
In addition to four terms on the Council, Cohen served 11 years as its president, ending that run in 2020.
Putnam County Democrat Chairman Kim Fidler said she expects the party will name a successor for Cohen on Friday. There is no Democrat candidate for the First Ward seat on the 2023 ballot.
The Cohen replacement will join a City Council that includes Second Ward Councilor Stacie Langdon, Third Ward Councilor Veronica Pejril, Fourth Ward Councilman Cody Eckert and at-large members Mark Hammer, Dave Murray and Darrel Thomas.
Murray and Pejril are also Democrats. Hammer, Langdon, Eckert and Thomas are Republicans.
Should a successor be named Friday, it will be in time for the new Council member to be sworn in and seated for the Thursday, March 9 meeting
