10 Fold Projects Gallery presents ‘Teetering’
“Teetering: An Exhibition by Bobbi Meier,” will open with a reception in the artist’s honor on Saturday, March 4, from 5–7 p.m. at the 10 W. Washington St. gallery in downtown Greencastle.
Meier, a Chicago-based visual artist, will travel to Indiana to attend the opening and offer an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and Saturday’s reception are free, and the public is welcome.
A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Meier works across a variety of media, including fibers, clay, drawing, assemblage and sound to create objects and environments that serve as emotional repositories for life situations that cannot be changed, such as death, illness, separation and now the pandemic. Through the layering of sheer and opaque materials, the artist reveals and disguises memories of loss, pain, joy — and disco dancing.
“Exploring the tactile nature of materials, Bobbi creates a dialogue between hard and soft, playfulness and discomfort, abstraction and figuration,” Maggie Leininger, co-founder and director of 10 Fold Projects, observed. “Her work reflects the complexity of lived experiences, encouraging an emotional response from those who view it.”
Meier’s artwork is represented in the permanent collections of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and the Kohler Foundation. Her work also has been exhibited widely, including at The Hyde Park Art Center, International Museum of Surgical Science, Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Roots & Culture Contemporary Art Center, Evanston Art Center, Lubeznik Center for the Arts, Hyde Park Art Center, Manifest Gallery, The Franklin and Miami Basel Art Week.
The Greencastle show runs for five weeks from March 4 through April 9. 10 Fold Projects gallery is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 4-6 p.m., Sundays during workshop hours (dates and times vary) and by appointment. For additional information, visit 10foldprojectsgallery@gmail.com.
