NEW MAYSVILLE — A home in Jackson Township is a total loss following a blaze that called out four volunteer fire departments Saturday morning.

With the dispatch time at about 5:50 a.m., Roachdale volunteer firefighter Brian Poole arrived first at 9392 N. CR 825 East to the porch area and the back side of the home fully involved. Heavy wind eventually led to the fire consuming the whole structure.

A box alarm was dropped with the Roachdale Volunteer Fire Department responding with an engine, a tanker and a rescue truck. Engines and tankers came from the Floyd Township Volunteer Fire Department and volunteers from North Salem, while the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department came with an engine. Putnam County EMS was also at the scene.

Poole said the attack on the fire was strictly defensive as three handlines were deployed on all sides. A drop tank was also used to hold water brought in by the tankers.

“We called enough tankers in to be able to keep up, but the distance from water made it a challenge,” Poole said as to keeping the water supply going.

Poole said the cause of the fire is considered unintentional. Its origin was traced to the home’s back side.

The American Red Cross was called out to assist the occupants. No injuries either with them or personnel were reported in the operation.

After the fire was controlled and then marked out, the last units cleared the scene around noon after overhaul was completed. The home was sided with a metal roof that was layered with shingles.

Poole estimated total damages with the structure itself and contents at approximately $150,000.

According to Putnam County GIS, the property on which the home stood is listed to Jeanette Wood.
