Patchwork

Thursday, March 9, 2023
With midday traffic streaming past, workers from Rieth-Riley Construction patch U.S. 231 (Jackson Street) just north of the Putnam County Courthouse on Thursday. The crew made its way northward through town along the U.S. highway, patching on Bloomington, Washington and Jackson streets. Much to the chagrin of local motorists, the full resurfacing of the road has been delayed and will not take place in the middle of the city until 2024.

  • Another delay by INDOT! How did the paper find out about it, and when will they reveal their source and the reason for the delay?

  • It’s not really a delay. They had originally planned to do 240 to Washington St first. And then tackle the northern part. I’m not sure of the reasoning for doing it that way, but that was the plan since pretty much the get go.

  • What are we doing here? Why can't 231 not be a minefield? Do we need new leaders who get things done?

  • Unbelievable. More patching. More patching

More patching. Yes youseriousclark, we need new "leaders" as they call themselves. It is time, once again, to get rid of all of these little career politicians in little Greencastle..now onto the all awaited greencastle YMCA.

  • What part of US 231 do you not understand???? It is a US highway controlled completely by IN Dept. of Transportation. The "little career politicians" have nothing to do with the timing and amount of work that is done on this road, including clearing of snow, patching and all other maintenance and repaving. I bet when the long-awaited work is being done later this year and again next year, you'll be the one screaming the loudest about the mess and inconvenience of the construction work.

  • Excuses not results.

  • Is the delay due to the utility issues on the north section of the project? Those utilities such as city water/sewer, and storm sewers may need moved due to the project. And if they are seriously old lines and need replaced, maybe the city will need to pay their share of an expensive part of the project? Most folks don't complain/understand about parts of a project they can't see!
