Harry is a senior at South Putnam and participates in three sports, cross country, wrestling and baseball.

Banner Graphic: How important are sports to you, and what have you learned from them?

Harry Eaglin: “Sports are very important. It shows you hard work, teamwork and not to judge others before they’ve shown you their real colors.”

BG: Talk about your sports.

HE: “They’re fun. I’d love to do them forever but I know that’s not really the way it will be.”

BG: What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you in sports?

HE: “I was running at Brownsburg and my shoe fell off.”

BG: What does your game day routine look like?

HE: “I listen to music. I like getting pumped up and ready to go play.

BG: Last year’s baseball season fizzled out toward the end of the year. What sort of things did you work on heading into the 2023 season?

HE: “My hitting and catching a lot, as well as knowing where to throw the ball when runners are on the move. I’ve worked on studying lineups and knowing where a guy is going to hit it. My arm is the thing that has gotten the best since last year.”

BG: Do you have any favorite college/pro sports teams or athletes you follow?

HE: “Shohei Otani.”

BG: What else do you do at school besides things involving sports?

HE: “I am in Area 30’s AST automotive services class.”

BG: What do you like to do outside of school and sports?

HE: “I like to hang out with my family and play cornhole.”

BG: What are your favorites in movies, books, TV and music?

HE: “I like watching baseball and MMA. Books are all right but I like the action of shows and movies.”

BG: Are you a person that wants to watch TV shows and movies, stream something from YouTube, Twitch, TikTok etc. or something else (gaming, reading, etc.)?

HE: “I would probably be watching a game on TV.”

BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

HE: “I would like to give back the experiences that I’ve had with my coaches by being a coach in the future.”

BG: What is your biggest fear?

HE: “Clowns.”

BG: You’ve been placed in charge of making dinner. What’s on the menu?

HE: “Steak, broccoli, macaroni and cheese and salad. I’d also do shrimp, chicken or fish.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

HE: “Two dogs, Molly and Pup-Pup.”

BG: If your house were on fire, all living things were already out and you have your keys, cell phone, wallet/purse etc., what is one thing you would go back and get?

HE: “My cornhole boards.”

BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would that word be and why?

HE: “joyful. I try to make everybody happy and not make them mad. I bring hope and joy to everybody and try to be nice to others.”

BG: What has been your favorite place to visit?

HE: “Pipestem State Park, W.Va.”

BG: What was your favorite school field trip?

HE: “Going to watch the Indians game in eighth grade.”

BG: How important is support from your family and classmates to your success?

HE: “It matters a lot.”

BG: Describe your overall school experience both academically and athletically.

HE: “Athletically, my experience was pretty fun and I have had a well-rounded experience. Academically, I never felt like I’ve been slacking and have always felt like I’ve tried in my work.”

BG: If your school was to offer a class it currently doesn’t, what would you want to see taught?

HE: “Probably a class about fish. Something a little more in-depth than the normal aquaculture classes we have.”

BG: What are your plans for after high school, and what career are you headed toward?

HE: “I am looking to be a heavy diesel mechanic, looking to work at a place like John Deere.”

BG: Is it difficult to keep up with your school work being an athlete?

HE: “No. You do the work you get in class and after you get home from practice.

BG: Which particular classes and teachers have helped you the most in high school?

HE: “This year, Mr. Clark, one of our English teachers, and Ms. Jones, who was another English teacher I’ve had.”

BG: In the future, once you’ve established yourself, if you had your choice, would you want to live somewhere more remote, such as in the mountains or the countryside, somewhere more flashy like down on the beach or in the big city or in the neighborhood?

HE: “Probably on a farm. Something with 200 acres, a house that’s about 6,000 sq. ft with a barn that 100x20 sq ft.”

BG: Do you think high school has gone fast, and are you going to miss it?

HE: “I am going to miss it. It’s gone fast. It sucks, but it is what it is.”
