BAINBRIDGE — Students and staff at Bainbridge Elementary School were evacuated Monday morning after a possible gas leak was reported.

North Putnam Supt. Nicole Allee related to the Banner Graphic that staff in the main office reported an odor of gas at about 8:25 a.m. Bainbridge Town Marshal Ronnie Campbell was at the building and called it to the town.

Messages were sent out to parents as the evacuation went to North Putnam High School.

Allee reported that the odor was contained to the office area, with a rooftop unit being the possible source. The town utility responded and monitored the building with zero parts per million being found.

With it being cleared at about 10 a.m., students and staff were to return to the building at 11:30 a.m. after lunch at the high school.

While morning pre-K pickup was held at the high school, afternoon pickup was canceled. Students were to go home on afternoon buses as usual.
