VAN BIBBER LAKE — With an investigation ongoing, no cause has yet been determined in the recent fatal residential fire in Van Bibber Lake.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security stated to the Banner Graphic on Monday that no evidence of foul play has been found at this time.

Carol Haney, 71, was found deceased. Coroner Jon Myers said an autopsy conducted Thursday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital determined her cause of death as carbon monoxide poisoning.

Personnel from the Greencastle Fire Department and five volunteer departments responded last Wednesday to the fire, which occurred at 1047 Van Bibber Lake Estates. A garage adjacent to the home was also destroyed, while another residence nearby was damaged.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, which works under the purview of the IDHS, was requested to investigate the incident.
