It’s not often siblings end up at the same college or university as one another coming out of high school.

It’s rarer still for them to be athletes at a school, let alone end up on in the same program.

For Chase Carrington, the chance to rejoin brothers Logan and Brach at Marian University was too good to pass up as the Greencastle senior will be joining the Knight football program starting in the 2023-24 school year.

“When I went there, all the teammates Brach and Logan had made me feel like it was the place to go,” Carrington said. “I like the nursing program the school has; I intend to study nursing and that was a big benefit in choosing Marian.”

Marian has become one of the premier programs in NAIA football, having reached the NAIA National Title Game four times, winning two national titles, making 11 NAIA tournament appearances since beginning play in 2007 and winning seven Mid-States Football Association conference titles.

The Knights will be under a new, yet familiar, coach as Ted Karras Jr. returns to lead the program after being the school’s first head coach from 2007-2012. Former head coach Mark Henninger was promoted to assistant athletic director in December of 2022.

“(Marian) is a winning team,” Carrington said about the football program, having made it to the NAIA tournament in 11 of 16 seasons as a program. “Aside from my brothers, I also talked with (Cloverdale head coach) Tyler Lotz and he liked it. He knows a lot of the coaches and was able to talk with me about them.

“I’ve talked with the coaches as well and while I don’t know what side of the ball they see me on yet, they have talked about being a safety on defense. I do need to get bigger and stronger while also knowing the playbook better than I did in in high school.”

Joining a team that knows about him long before stepping on campus was a plus for Carrington, who added the nursing program would challenge him just as much as trying to make his way into the fold for the Knights.

“I already know most of the guys out there, so that’s an advantage,” Carrington said about being able to jump in socially at Marian. “Being a nursing student, the workload will be far tougher than in high school and I need to take it a lot more serious.”

Though facing some uphill tasks once he arrives on the campus at Marian, Carrington was happy to get the gang back together this fall.

“I’m very excited,” Carrington said. “I’m more excited to be back with (Logan and Brach), going to school with them and being on the same team as them.

“I’m really pumped about that.”
