Banner Graphic: How important are sports to you, and what have you learned from them?

Cayden Witt: “Sports are one of the most important things in my life. I’ve been doing them forever. They help teach me important things in life like showing up on time; if you’re going to miss a day of work, you have to call in and that’s the same for track or you have a punishment. Sports have helped me grow socially and get in shape. Sports are my everything.”

BG: Talk about your sports.

CW: “Football went really well. We had a really good season. We had a couple of tough games but other than that, almost everyone else we played, we had good games against. As a team, we played well together and had good chemistry with one another. This year in track, it’s the same thing on the boys’ side. We’re having a good year, we’re all cheering each other on and having a good time.”

BG: What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you in sports?

CW: “Last year, during basketball season, I was very good about falling over lines. There was a county game in front of everyone where I tripped and fell over nothing, face planting on the floor.”

BG: What does your game day routine look like?

CW: “For track, I usually go up to the gas station and get the same few things. I get a Body Armor and a donut, eat and drink that, get to the track, get my stretches in, do a little running, play with my phone a little bit to get ready mentally and that’s that.”

BG: Has it sunk in graduation is in a month?

CW: “I’m pretty ready for it. I’ll miss sports but I’m ready for it.”

BG: Do you have any favorite college/pro sports teams or athletes you follow?

CW: “The (Indianapolis) Colts are my favorite team and I hope they draft someone great (Thursday). I love watching football. I love Indiana University and was happy with them this year. I’m an Indiana guy.”

BG: What else do you do at school besides things involving sports?

CW: “Not a whole lot.I help out with some things, like helping set up prom the other day or if they need help decorating in the school, I tend to help with that. That’s really it as I’m constantly doing sports.”

BG: What do you like to do outside of school and sports?

CW: “I love hanging out with friends and going out to eat. Sometimes, in my spare time, I like to play video games, board games and some other things.”

BG: What are your favorites in movies, books, TV and music?

CW: “I love all sorts of music. I love rap, alt rock, pop. I love all genres. In movies, I’m a comedy guy and drama guy. I also love horror movies.”

BG: Are you a person that wants to watch TV shows and movies, stream something from YouTube, Twitch, TikTok etc. or something else (gaming, reading, etc.)?

CW: “My go-to would be some sort of social media, whether it’s Snapchat, Instagram or TikTok. If I get bored of that or have done enough social media for one day, because there is such a thing as too much social media, I’d go play a board game with the family.”

BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

CW: “I have never left the country and I hope one day to fulfill that dream of leaving the US on a trip.”

BG: What is your biggest fear?

CW: “Heights. I’m not a big heights guy.”

BG: You’ve been placed in charge of making dinner. What’s on the menu?

CW: “Spaghetti 100 percent. It’s my favorite meal, ever. It’s easy to make and everyone loves it.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

CW: “I have five dogs, two inside dogs, Pip and Melvin, and three outside, Bailey, Melvin and Duke. We also have two cats, Groot and Winnie.”

BG: If your house were on fire, all living things were already out and you have your keys, cell phone, wallet/purse etc., what is one thing you would go back and get?

CW: “I’m probably grabbing my Playstation 5. If not, my mannequin head that I’ve had forever and is precious to me. I don’t know why, though.”

BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would that word be and why?

CW: “Fun. I can be a fun guy to be around, a funny guy or go out and do fun things. I can be serious but more often than not, meeting me is going to be a fun interaction.”

BG: What has been your favorite place to visit?

CW: “Gatlinburg, Tenn. I love that place and there’s so much to do there.”

BG: What was your favorite school field trip?

CW: “Probably the one we took to Chicago in fifth grade. We got out of school and got to go out of state. Seeing Chicago was awesome.”

BG: How important is support from your family and classmates to your success?

CW: “That is the biggest importance to me. My family and friends have been there every inch of the way, helping me through numerous problems and I love them for it.”

BG: Describe your overall school experience both academically and athletically.

CW: “It’s been great. Athletically, I’ve been playing sports every year, almost in every season. Even if we haven’t had the best season, it’s been a great time for me. Academically has also been great for me. I love all the teachers here. I’ve gone through school with A’s and B’s every year, so they must be doing something right.”

BG: If your school was to offer a class it currently doesn’t, what would you want to see taught?

CW: “I’m not a great cook, so for the fun of it, a cooking class. It would be cool to see, learn some interesting recipes and have fun with it.”

BG: What are your plans for after high school, and what career are you headed toward?

CW: “I plan to is to go work in Plainfield as an electrician, which is the career I’m aiming for.”

BG: Is it difficult to keep up with your school work being an athlete?

CW: “Sometimes. You’ll have the occasional game or meet and you’ll have homework or a lab you can’t get to that night because of that game or meet. For the most part, it’s pretty easy if you get things done in class or during that little time when you’re on the way to an event.”

BG: Which particular classes and teachers have helped you the most in high school?

CW: “English with Mr. Clark. He’s a great dude who has taught me a lot about the outside world and how to prepare for it between education and social interactions. He’s a key teacher for me.”

BG: In the future, once you’ve established yourself, if you had your choice, would you want to live somewhere more remote, such as in the mountains or the countryside, somewhere more flashy like down on the beach or in the big city or in the neighborhood?

CW: “In the next three years, I would want a suburban house, something small and workable, but the goal for me is a nice, flashy penthouse after I retire.

BG: Do you think high school has gone fast, and are you going to miss it?

CW: “These last few years of high school have flown by like crazy. There are certain aspects I’m going to miss about high school but not that many things. I’m just ready to get on with life.”
