North Putnam tops county teams at WIC Girls' Track Meet

ELLETTSVILLE – North Putnam topped Cloverdale among the Putnam County schools at the WIC Girls’ Track and Field Meet Tuesday at Edgewood High School.

The meet was a two-horse race between the hosts and Northview with the Mustangs winning their third-straight title 158-150 over the Knights. Indian Creek was third on 71 points with West Vigo fourth on 66 points.

The Cougars finished fifth on 35 points with the Clovers sixth on 30 points. Greencastle tied with Owen Valley for seventh on 27 points while South Putnam was ninth on 23 points. Sullivan finished 10th on 22 points and Brown County was 11th on 15 points.

Three county athletes won conference titles as South Putnam’s Bailey Brickert won her third-straight title in the 100-meter hurdles (16.02), Greencastle’s Kylee Owens won a three-way tie in high jump (5-00) on jumps and North Putnam’s Olivia Stewart won at discus (98-03).

The Cougars added fifth-place finishes from the 3,200-relay team of Melanie Davies, Brooke Hensley, Maddie Trent and Jenna Day (11:23.65) and Kassidy Hackleman at long jump (15-05.50), sixth-place finishes for Hackleman in the 400-meter dash (1:05.22), Hackleman, Day, Hensley and Saylor Carrell in the 1,600-meter relay (4:42.36) and Callee Riggle in the shot put (31-03), seventh-place finishes for Day in the 800-meter run (2:39.22), Carrell in high jump (4-08) and Mackinley Lawson in the shot put (31-03) and eighth-place finishes for Riggle in discus (87-09 and Stewart, Riley Huffman, Addi Osburn and Natalie McCartney in the 400-meter relay (56.94).

Cloverdale earned almost all of its points on the track with fourth-place finishes for the 400-meter relay team of Olivia Hemmerling, Rebecca Ponzano, Lulu Savoiani and Emily Mann (54.52) and Asyria Ford in the 400-meter dash (1:04.71), fifth-place finishes for Hemmerling in the 300-meter hurdles (50.49) and the 1,600-mneter relay team of Mann, Hemmerling, Ford and Neese (4:39.49), a sixth-place finish for Hemmerling in the 100-meter hurdles (17.90), seventh-place finishes for Jacie Neese in the 300-meter hurdles (53.15), Mann in the 200-meter dash (29,10) and the 3,200-meter relay team of Abigail Nees, Molly Havenor, Daphanie Geiger and Ella Szczerbik (11:34.10) and eighth-place finishes for Savoiani in the 200-meter dash (29.34), Szczerbik in the 3,200-meter run (12:43.59) and Alayna Oberkrom at pole vault (7-00).

Greencastle found most of its points in the field with a second-place finish from Lilly Barnhart at discus (96-11), a fourth-place finish from Carissa Trigg at long jump (15-09.50), a sixth-place finish from Skyler Byrd at pole vault (8-06) and an eighth-place finish from Owens, Karissa Trigg, Emma Smiley and Ashlynn Pearson in the 1,600-meter relay (4:46.24).

South Putnam got a fourth-place finish from Jasmine Guzman in the 100-meter dash (13.41), sixth-place finishes from the 3,200-mter relay team of Lilly Emmerich, Kelsey Custis, Elizabeth Dobson and Elise Kendall (11:28.70) and Guzman in long jump (15-05) and a seventh-place finishes for the 400-meter relay team of Brickert, Guzman, Kallie Pastore and Makayla Nicholls (56.15).
