North Putnam tops county teams at WIC Boys' Track Meet

BRAZIL – North Putnam led the way for the Putnam County schools at the WIC Boys’ Track and Field Meet Thursday night, finishing sixth overall on 55 points.

Greencastle finished ninth on 45.50 points, half a point behind Brown County, while Cloverdale was 10th on 19 points and South Putnam 11th on 14 points.

Hosts Northview won the conference title on 110 points, followed by Indian Creek on 91 points. Edgewood finished third on 67 points, three points ahead of Sullivan in fourth while Owen Valley scored 11 points late to overtake the Cougars for fifth place on 58. West Vigo finished seventh on 52 points.

North Putnam picked up three wins on the night, all involving Nolan Hackleman, who won the 400-meter dash (50.65), the long jump (21-02.50) and anchored the 1,600-meter relay team along with Myckah Slagle, Brayden Monnett and Matt Farrington (3:34.07).

Farrington backed Hackleman by finishing second in the long jump (20-09.50) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (54.34).

Greencastle and Cloverdale also had conference champions on the night as Tiger Cub senior Andrew Adams won the pole vault (12-03) and Clover sophomore Tayt Jackson took home the 300-meter hurdle title (41.95).

Other finishes for North Putnam on the night included sixth-place finishes for Jeremiah Miles in the 1,600-meter run (4:43.90) and the 400-meter relay team of Slagle, Coby Galloway, Paxton O’Brien and Myles Bryan (47.32) seventh-place finishes for Corie Stancombe in the 800-meter run (2:07.55) and the 3,200-meter relay team of Monnett, Stancombe, Thomas Nelson and Evan Polley (9:25.78) eighth-place finishes for Stone Wass in the high jump (5-08) and Miles in the 3,200-meter run (10:50.46).

Greencastle had several placers including a second-place finish for Landon Miller in the 3,200-meter run (10:03.38), third-place finishes for Cole Hutcheson at high jump (6-00) and Miller in the 1,600-meter run (4:40.23), a fourth-place finish for Brendle Brennan in the 110-meter hurdles (16.34), a fifth-place finish for the 400-meter relay team of Hutcheson, Dylan Olson, Clay Glessner and Jake Miller (45.38), a sixth-place finish for the 3,200-meter relay team of Landon Miller, Charlie Menzel, Anthony Peters and Josh Rumple (9:15.56) and a tie for seventh place for Josh Jordan at pole vault (9-00).

Behind Jackson’s win for Cloverdale was a fifth-place finish for Harrison Tyler at pole vault (10-06), a seventh-place finish for the 1,600-meter relay team of Jackson, Tyson Bridges, Scottie Mcguire and Jaxton Helton (3:48.26), a tie for seventh place for Jakob Compton at pole vault (9-00) and eight-place finishes for Bridges in the 110-meter hurdles (17.56) and Connor Ramsey in the 400-meter dash (56.05).

Khalil Jefferson led South Putnam with a third-place finish in the long jump (20-01) with other finishes including a fifth-place finish for the 3,200-meter relay team of Gabe Feltner, Dunkin York, Evan Hinkle and Keaton Chew (9:01.49) and seventh-place finishes for Hayden Meredith in the high jump (5-08) and Feltner in the 1,600-meter run (4:44.93).
