Greencastle Heavy Trash Day slated for Saturday

With a goal of “keeping Greencastle beautiful,” Greencastle Heavy Trash Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at Republic Services on the city’s West Side.

City of Greencastle trash customers are invited to dispose of trash and large waste items free of charge, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Republic site, 525 W. Columbia St. Vehicles must enter off West Columbia Street.

Customers will be expected to unload their own vehicles. However, help will be provided for those not physically able to unload.

The service is only for city trash customers, who have received a letter in the mail recently detailing what items can be disposed of and how many.

Greencastle Heavy Trash Day is free of charge with proof of residency, a copy of a utility bill or possession of the flyer customers received by mail.

Items that will be accepted are:

-- Household furniture, mattresses, large toys, small appliances, large appliances (limit one), microwaves and television sets (limit two).

-- Carpeting tied in three-foot bundles.

-- Small (limited) amounts of construction debris. No contractor, business or remodeling companies are permitted to participate.

-- Automobile tires (limit four). No tractor or large equipment tires will be accepted.

Meanwhile, the Yard Waste Site will be open 9:15 a.m.-noon. Saturday at 2362 S CR 250 West (located by the County Highway Department) for yard waste only, and will be of no charge to Greencastle trash customers Saturday.
