County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 2:05 a.m. Austin L. Sellers, 26, Crawfordsville, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 8:23 p.m. Courtney R. DeWitt, 26, Martinsville, was taken into custody on a Parke County warrant.

Friday

• At 11:48 p.m. Enjess S. Jacobs, 40, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 10:22 a.m. Alberto G. Ramirez-Palacios, 32, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

City Police

Seven persons were arrested in recent activity by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 4:38 a.m. Sunday, Joseph R. Pilkin, 29, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Chris Helmer.

Booked into the Putnam County Jail for driving while intoxicated, Pilkin was stopped on Elizabeth Street.

• At 5:39 p.m. Saturday, Christopher T. Smith, 31, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Stopped at Jacob and Vine streets, Smith was lodged in the jail for disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and on a Putnam County warrant for criminal trespass.

• At 10:34 a.m. Saturday, Kolby R. Williams, 24, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Brown.

Arrested in the 800 block of Albin Pond Road, Williams was booked into the jail for invasion of privacy.

• At 8:53 a.m. Saturday, Clifton D. Tuell, 58, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Taken into custody at a Greenwood Avenue residence, Tuell was lodged at the jail on a Putnam County warrant for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 8:09 p.m. Friday, Surita K. Grassick, 64, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman.

Stopped along Indianapolis Road, Grassick was housed at the jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Grassick registered .21 percent blood-alcohol concentration under breathalyzer testing.

• At 6:21 p.m. Friday, Andrea L. Steele, 58, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Helmer.

Steele was arrested at Northview Apartments and booked in on a local warrant for possession of methamphetamine and theft.

• At 6:54 a.m. Friday, Cory E. Smith, 37, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Brown.

Taken into custody at a North Arlington Street residence, Smith was lodged at the jail on four local warrants relative to initial charges of theft with a prior offense and criminal trespass; possession of paraphernalia; theft with a prior offense and criminal trespass.

One recent summons was issued by city officers:

• At 3:30 a.m. Thursday, David Byers, 41, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Justin Herd on Warren Drive.

Byers was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

One recent citation was issued by city officers:

• At 1:11 a.m. May 8, Paul Kay, 47, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer DeWitt.

Stopped at North Indiana Street and Shadowlawn Avenue, Kay was cited for having no working license plate light.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 incidents since Thursday morning:

• At 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 1080 N. CR 50 West for an unauthorized burn. Firefighters arrived at 11:58 and found plastic and other debris burning in a pile. An engine was called to the property and the fire was extinguished. GFD went back into service at 12:35 p.m.

• At 2:18 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at the intersection of Putnamville and Berry streets. Firefighters on the scene arrived at 2:23 and assisted with patient care and cleaned up debris. GFD went back into service at 2:53 p.m.

• At 8:28 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University dormitory at 420 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:32 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:41 p.m.

• At 7:38 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to assist the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department with a motor vehicle incident with injuries at 4472 S. CR 300 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:48 and extricated the patient from the vehicle, as well as assisted with care. GFD went back into service at 8:30 a.m.

• At 6:55 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Don Julio Mexican Restaurant for an electrical hazard. Firefighters arrived at 6:58 and were advised of an electrical burning smell. Power was secured and it was found that an HVAC unit had overheated. GFD advised for the unit to be repaired and went back into service at 7:29 p.m.

GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw on two consecutive runs late Friday evening and early Saturday morning:

– At 11:03 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:09 and determined the alarm was due to hair spray. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 11:17 p.m.

– At 1:59 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched for another fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:04 a.m. and determined that a detector’s head was dirty. The detector head was blown out and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:12 a.m.

• At 7:59 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Pi Beta Phi at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:03 a.m. and could not locate the activated detector head. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:17 a.m.

• At 12:36 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Pi Beta Phi for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:39 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1 p.m.

• At 1 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Ascena Retail Group for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:12 and determined the alarm was faulty. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:45 p.m.

• At 2:11 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Bloomington and Walnut streets for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 2:16 and found that a gas line was broken by digging. CenterPoint Energy was contacted and came to secure the leak. GFD went back into service at 4:04 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for eight medical assists, had two disregards and found no incident on one run in and around this timeframe.
