Greencastle halted at Crawfordsville Tennis Regional by Sullivan; track athletes end season at Bloomington North Regional

CRAWFORDSVILLE — ­­Greencastle saw its tennis season come to a halt Tuesday at the IHSAA Crawfordsville Girls’ Tennis Regional as Sullivan beat the Tiger Cubs for a second time this season 4-1.

The tennis year is not entirely over as Allie Landry won her match in three sets at No. 1 singles, holding off Hanna Burkhart 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) and will move into the IHSAA Girls’ Tennis Individual Tournament, returning to Crawfordsville Thursday with an opponent to be determined on Wednesday.

No. 1 doubles pair Caroline Gooch and Sophie Riggle battled back form a set down against Sarah Francis and Margaret McCammon but ultimately fell 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

The Golden Arrows won in straight-sets on the other three courts as Maddie Landry lost 6-4, 7-5 to Paige Chickadaunce at No. 2 singles while Addie Fowler was defeated by Allyson McKinney 6-1, 6-0. Liberty Amis and Bella Monnett were defeated 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles by Ella King and Parker Mischler.

Greencastle finishes its season at 19-3 and 7-1 in WIC play, dropping contests only to Sullivan and Terre Haute South on the season.

Bloomington North Girls’ Track Regional

At Bloomington North Tuesday, South Putnam’s Bailey Brickert finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.89) to lead the Putnam County athletes at the regional round Tuesday evening.

Greencastle’s Kylee Owens was the other athlete to place at Bloomington North Tuesday, finishing seventh in the high jump (5-02).

Additional finishes for the county athletes include a ninth-place finish for Greencastle’s Skyler Byrd at pole vault (8-06), a 10th-place finish for Cloverdale’s Olivia Hemmerling in the 300-meter hurdles (50.04), an 11th-place finish for the Cloverdale 400-meter relay team of Yasmin Sorter, Lulu Savoiani, Emily Mann and Rebecca Ponzano (52.90), a 12th-place finish for Greencastle’s Lilly Barnhart at discus (95-02), 13th-place finishes for North Putnam’s Jenna Day in the 800-meter run (2:36,68) and Cloverdale’s Asyria Ford in the 400-meter dash (1:04.93), a 14th-place finish for the North Putnam 3,200-meter relay team of Day, Melanie Davies, Maddie Trent and Brooke Hensley (11:28.72)
