Sandra Lee Shafer

Sandra L. Shafer, 82, of Fillmore, formerly of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

She was born Nov. 9, 1940 in Indianapolis to Mervin and Harriette (Jones) Winters. She grew up mostly in Indianapolis, but had many fond memories of summers spent on the family farm in Jordan Village (Spencer area).

Sandra was employed at Woolworth Co. in downtown Indianapolis.

She married James Shafer in 1965 and he preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Sandra was a homemaker and a wonderful mother to her four children.

She is survived by her children, David (Cathy) Shafer of Greencastle, Daniel (Renee) Shafer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Joanna (Mick) Spencer of Canton, Ohio, and Susanna Shafer of Fillmore; two brothers, Merv (Mary) Winters and Tim Winters; a sister, Teresa (Billy) Savage; six grandchildren, Kaela, Christopher, Stephen, Charity, Amanda and Joel; and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Aaleiyah.

As a teenager she attended Christian Tabernacle in Indianapolis. After marriage she became a faithful member of the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Cloverdale.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 with Pastor Samuel Shafer officiating at the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, 11234 S.R. 42, Cloverdale. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of services.
