Bridge 276 reopens in Madison Township
A nearly 15-month headache for county officials and the owners of at least one business came to an end on Friday.
Bridge 276, which carries Saddle Club Road (400 West) over the CSX Railroad in Madison Township, reopened to traffic for the first time since March 2022.
Contractor White Construction recently laid the asphalt deck and installed guardrails on the reconstructed bridge, allowing for the bridge to reopen on Friday afternoon.
Work on the bridge, which was originally estimated to take until August of last year, was beset by delays, many of them revolving around the lack of availability of railroad flaggers from CSX.
Coupled with the closure of Oakalla Bridge last fall, the work left just one way to access homes in the area, as well as Three Fat Labs Wedding and Event Center, the entrance of which lies immediately south of the bridge.
County Engineer Jim Peck noted on Friday that even with the bridge reopened, the contractor has a few items to complete before the job is considered complete.
