CLOVERDALE — A home west of Cloverdale was destroyed in a blaze that called upon crews from four fire departments Sunday evening.

A box alarm went out at about 6:20 p.m. for a structure fire at 9201 S. CR 90 East. Crews responded from the Cloverdale Township and Jefferson Township volunteer departments and the Greencastle Fire Department, as well as the Cataract Volunteer Fire Department.

Though there was initial difficulty getting to the scene due to a locked gate and disabled vehicle blocking the driveway, Cloverdale Township Fire arrived to the one-story home fully engulfed. The roof had already collapsed, and thus the response was defensive from the outset.

Two handlines were deployed and the fire was tackled from each side. It was marked out by 7:25 p.m., after which personnel conducted overhaul. Overall, at least 15,000 gallons were used in the operation.

No cause for the fire was determined. Cloverdale Township Fire Capt. Justin Shepherd noted that no utilities were connected to the home.

A resident was checked out by Putnam County EMS, while the American Red Cross was called to assist them. However, no injuries to them or personnel were reported.

The Cloverdale Police Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were also at the scene. Meanwhile, the Poland Volunteer Fire Department covered Cloverdale Township Fire’s station.

“It was just hot, but everybody did a good job,” Shepherd commented about the response as a whole.

According to Putnam County GIS, the home was listed to Thomas Jr. and Sherry Williams.
