Wilma Jean Sawyer

Wilma Jean Sawyer, 95, passed away at Whitlock Place on June 5, 2023.

She was born to Edgar Donald Webster and Reta Myrtle McGaughey Webster on Nov. 2, 1927. She graduated from Clinton Center in 1945.

She married Victor Riley Sawyer on Sept. 26, 1948. He died on February 2, 2008. Wilma Jean was a member of the Russellville Community Church for 84 years.

Wilma Jean worked at L.S. Ayres in Indianapolis, RR Donnelley & Sons in Crawfordsville, and the Raccoon Greenhouse, as well as helping her husband on the farm. She and Vic enjoyed many years in their cabin in Colorado and their home in Florida. They loved to travel to historical places in the United States. You would find them at the State Fair, at a local fish fry, the Strawberry Festival in Crawfordsville and the Covered Bridge Festival in Putnam County.

Survivors include several cousins and their families on the Webster side of the family and several nephews and extended family members on the Sawyer side of the family.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13 at Machledt & Servies Funeral Home in Waveland. Services will begin at 3 p.m., led by her cousin, Cynthia Grimes. Burial will be at Hebron Cemetery in Russellville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wilma Jean’s memory may be made to the Russellville Christian Church.
