Robert ‘Lil Joe’ ‘Grumpy’ Deakin Sr.

Robert “Lil Joe” “Grumpy” Deakin Sr., 96, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Poland.

He was born in Indianapolis on Aug. 9, 1926 to the late Howard and Ethel (Downing) Deakin. Bob graduated from George Washington High School in 1944 and married the love of his life, Martha Clark, on Oct. 12, 1946.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, worked at Link Belt in Indianapolis for 47 years, and was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #69.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting and traveling. He also loved to spend time on the lake, fishing, swimming and skiing. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; brothers Roland and Beryl Deakin; grandsons Ronnie Williams and Robert Deakin III; and granddaughter Molly Williams.

Survivors include his daughters, Phyllis (Steve) Koch and Candy (Ron) Williams; sons, Robert (Cindy) Deakin Jr., Darrell (Sheila) Deakin, Rocky (Ladonna) Deakin and Scott (Sandy) Deakin; 18 bgrandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 14 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Alan Driver officiating and burial with military honors to follow at 1 p.m. in Westridge Cemetery in Indianapolis. The family will accept friends for visitation on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
