Jeanne Jones, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Community North Hospital of Indianapolis after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Crawfordsville on Oct. 30, 1951 to Byron and Mary (Wilson) Dukes.

Upon graduation from Crawfordsville High School in 1969, Jeanne worked as a dental assistant. Later in life, she volunteered and then worked as a teacher’s aide at Jones Elementary School, later working in an administrative role at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, both located in Greencastle. After moving to Indianapolis, she was employed as the head of administration by F.C. Tucker Realty until her retirement.

Jeanne’s real passions were baking, quilting and travel. During her time in Greencastle, she was active in the Extension Club, volunteered and exhibited for many years at the Putnam County Fair and served on the Putnam County Fair Board. She was well known for her intricate quilt making and artistic ability, winning various awards at fairs and art shows. Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed designing and gifting her works of art to friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips to the Great Smoky Mountains over the years. A Hawaiian cruise, attending the Rose Bowl Parade, multiple trips to Disney World, as well as making regular visits to her children and grandchildren were among her favorite trips after her retirement.

Jeanne is survived by her loving husband, Gary Jones; son Jeff Albright (Elana) of Kennesaw, Ga.; daughter Laurie (Albright) Peden (Andrew) of Norwalk, Conn.; grandchildren Delaney and Kendall Albright and Sophie Peden; as well as stepchildren Claudia Alsobrook, Angela Chrisco and Marc Jones.

She is also survived by four sisters, Judy O’Sullivan of Tampa, Fla., and Charlotte Vosika, Barb Rouse and Shelly Lindgren, all of Avon; her dear friend, Debra English; her first husband, David Albright (Sandi) of Summerville, S.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, stepgrandkids/great-grandkids.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Robert Morris, stepmother Mary Dukes and other relatives.

A celebration of life will be held in Indianapolis at a date to be determined.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
