Western Indiana Conference announces All-WIC athletes for 2023 spring season

With the 2022-23 sports calender nearly at an end, the Western Indiana Conference has released its lists of All-WIC athletes for the 2023 spring season.

Athletes in baseball, softball and girls’ tennis are determined by the coaches of their respective sports. Athletes in boys’ and girls’ track and field and boys’ golf are determined by their finishes in their respective conference meets.

In total, 34 Putnam County athletes were either named or earned their place on the All-WIC conference teams.

Baseball

Levi Hilton, Cloverdale — Clover senior helped lead team to the IHSAA Baseball Class 2A Sectional No. 44 title. Batted .371 with 26 hits, three doubles, two triples and two home runs. Scored 19 runs with 12 RBI, 10 walks and nine stole bases for an on-base percentage of .463.

Jaylen Windmiller, North Putnam — Junior hit .325 with 26 hits and co-led team with 16 RBI, five doubles and two home runs. Scored 12 runs while leading team in on-base percentage (.433), slugging (.487) and OPS (.920). Drew eight walks while only striking out six times. Fielded at .928 rate with 102 putouts and 14 assists with seven double plays against nine errors.

On the mound, Windmiller had a 2.36 ERA across 50.1 innings, allowing 44 hits, 39 runs (17 earned) and 13 walks against 89 strikeouts.

Brayden Monnett, North Putnam — Led the Cougars with a .397 batting average and 31 hits. Scored 16 runs while driving in 14 runs with two doubles. Struck out 10 times with four walks with an on-base percentage of .417, slugging .423 and OPS of .840. Led the team in fielding with a .969 fielding rate with 93 putouts and 31 assists in 128 chances against four errors.

On the mound, Monnett had a 3.-3 ERA across 39.1 innings, allowing 46 hits, 34 runs (17 earned) and 15 walks against 50 strikeouts.

Nathan Sutherlin, Greencastle — Freshman led the Tiger Cubs in hits (37), RBI (31), doubles (eight) and home runs (two). scored 16 runs, drawing nine walks against 13 strikeouts. Led team in slugging (.616) and OPS (1.106) with an .490 on-base percentage. Had eight stolen bases; had a .882 fielding percentage with 20 putouts and 40 assists in 68 chances against eight errors.

On the mound, had a 2.04 ERA across 24 innings, allowing 25 hits, 13 runs (seven earned) and 11 walks against 32 strikeouts.

Treyten Clark, Greencastle — Tiger Cub sophomore had a .329 batting average with 26 hits, 21 RBI, 15 runs, seven doubles and two triples with 11 walks against 18 strikeouts. Had a .418 on-base percentage, a ,506 slugging rate and OPS of .924. Stole eight bases and fielded .871 with 24 putouts and three assists against four errors.

On the mound, had a 3.32 ERA across 50.2 innings, allowing 58 hits, 27 runs (24 earned) and seven walks against 60 strikeouts.

Wyatt Mullin, South Putnam — Led Eagles with .455 average, 20 hits, 17 runs, four triples and two home runs. Drove in five runs with two doubles, five walks against seven strikeouts. Led team with .510 on-base percentage, .840 slugging and 1.351 OPS. Stole seven bases while fielding at .875 percentage with 26 putouts and two assists against four errors.

On the mound, had a 5.92 ERA, allowing 34 hits, 31 runs (22 earned) and 20 walks against 43 strikeouts.

Softball

Lilah Holderfield, South Putnam — Batted .321 with 18 hits, 13 RBI, 13 runs scored and three doubles. Led team with 16 walks and five strikeouts, a .459 on-base percentage, a .375 slugging rate and an OPS of .834. Had four stolen bases and a .868 fielding rate with 73 putouts and six assists, along with four double plays, against 12 errors.

Jaicee Jackson, South Putnam — Had 14 RBI and led Eagles with three home runs. Fielded at .882 with 30 putouts against four errors.

In the circle, had a 4.31 ERA over 74.2 innings, allowing 93 hits, 73 runs (46 earned) with 60 walks against 40 strikeouts.

Paisley Meyerrose, Cloverdale — Batted .328 with 20 hits, 22 RBI, 18 runs scored, a team-high four home runs and two doubles. Drew a team-high 10 walks against 21 strikeouts with team highs in on-base percentage (.481), slugging (.557) and OPS (1.038). Fielded at .859 rate with 45 putouts and 28 assists against 12 errors.

In the circle, had a 7.67 ERA over 21 innings, allowing 46 hits, 53 runs (23 earned) and 15 walks against 21 strikeouts.

Emma Hunter, Greencastle — Led Tiger Cubs with .542 batting average, 52 hits, 41 RBI, 16 doubles, two triples and four home runs. Scored 36 runs with 10 walks against 13 strikeouts, leading the team in on-base percentage (.583), slugging (.875) and OPS (1.458). Stole 26 bases while fielding at .855 with 53 putouts and 12 assists against 11 errors.

Sydney Lantzy, Greencastle — Batted .462 with 48 hits, 21 RBI, eight doubles, three triples and a team-high five home runs. Scored a team-high 38 runs with eight walks and 13 strikeouts with an on-base percentage of .504, slugging of .740 and 1.244 OPS. Stole a team-high 40 bases while fielding .917 with 78 putouts and 10 assists against eight errors.

Brilye Schmitz, North Putnam — Co-led team with .449 batting average with team-high 46 hits, 33 RBI, eight doubles and seven home runs. Scored a team-high 37 runs, drawing 14 walks against nine strikeouts for a on-base percentage of .529, slugging of .765 and OPS of 1.283. Stole 17 bases while fielding .971 with 49 putouts and 53 assists against three errors.

Emma Williams, North Putnam — Co-led team with .449 batting average with 40 hits and team highs with 38 RBI, nine doubles and 10 home runs. Scored 21 runs with 15 walks against 11 strikeouts, leading the team in on-base percentage (.529), slugging (.910) and OPS (1.439). Stole three bases while fielding .962 with 144 putouts and 10 assists against six errors.

Girls’ Tennis

Allie Landry, Greencastle — Was 22-2 on the season at No. 1 singles for the Tiger Cubs, winning the Greencastle Sectional, the Crawfordsville Individual Singles Sectional and reached the Fishers Individual Singles Final. Was undefeated in WIC play as Greencastle finished as runner-up in the WIC. Was named to the IHSTeCA All-District 5 team as well as Honorable Mention All-State along with being part of the Tiger Cub Academic All-State team.

Caroline Gooch/Sophie Riggle, Greencastle — Finished 19-2 as a pair at No. 1 doubles. Were undefeated in WIC play as Greencastle finished as runner-up in the WIC. Helped the Tiger Cubs win the Greencastle Sectional. Were named to the IHSTeCA All-District 5 team as well as Honorable Mention All-State along with being part of the Tiger Cub Academic All-State team. Riggle, in addition, was named as an individual Academic All-State team member.

Ava Watson, South Putnam — Played at No. 1 singles for the Eagles in 2023.

Boys’ Golf

Zach Thomas, Cloverdale — Was medalist at the WIC Golf Match, shooting 76 for the Clovers, who won the conference title with a round of 337. Shot 43 at the Putnam County match to finish fourth overall while shooting 83 at the Martinsville Golf Sectional, losing out to teammate Eli Kelley in a playoff for the final individual qualifier spot.

Bryson Worman, Greencastle — Finished fifth at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 82. Shot 48 at the Putnam County Match to finish seventh overall. Shot 95 at the Martinsville Sectional.

Jackson Rodgers, Greencastle — Tied for sixth at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 83. Shot 51 at the Putnam County Match and 96 at the Martinsville Sectional.

Eli Kelley, Cloverdale — Finished ninth at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 85. Was medalist at the Putnam County Golf Match with a round of 39, Shot 83 at the Martinsville Sectional, winning a three-way playoff for the final individual qualifier spot. Finished the season with a round of 90 at the Harrison Regional.

Zane Huber, Greencastle — Finished 10th at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 86. Shot 44 at the Putnam County Golf Match to finish fifth overall. Shot 84 at the Martinsville Sectional, missing the playoff for the final individual qualifier position by a stroke.

Noah Betz, Cloverdale — Tied for 11th at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 87. Shot 42 at the Putnam County Golf Match to finish third overall. Shot 90 at the Martinsville Sectional.

Sam White, Greencastle — Tied for 11th at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 87. Shot 45 at the Putnam County Golf Match to finish sixth overall. Shot 90 at the Martinsville Sectional.

Boys’ Track

Nolan Hackleman, North Putnam — Won three events at the WIC Boys’ Track and Field Meet, claiming the long jump (21-02.50), the 400-meter dash (50.65) and was a leg of the 1,600-meter relay (3:34.07). Won the same three events at the Putnam County Track Meet and the Terre Haute North Boys’ Sectional. Qualified for the IHSAA Boys’ Track and Field State Finals in the long jump, finishing 16th overall (21-01.50).

Brayden Monnett, Matt Farrington, Myckah Slagle, North Putnam — Were part of the winning 1,600-meter relay (3:34.07) at the WIC Boys’ Track and Field Meet. Won the event at the Putnam County Track Meet and Terre Haute North Sectional, finishing ninth at the Bloomington North Regional (3:35.86).

Tayt Jackson, Cloverdale — Won the 300-meter hurdles (41.93) at the WIC Boys’ Track and Field Meet. Finished third at the Terre Haute North Sectional (42.49). Finished ninth at the Bloomington North Regional (42.09).

Andrew Adams, Greencastle — Won the pole vault (12-03) at the WIC Boys’ Track and Field Meet. Won the same event at the Putnam County Meet and at the Terre Haute North Sectional. Finished fourth (12-06) at the Bloomington North Regional.

Girls’ Track

Bailey Brickert, South Putnam — Won the 100-meter hurdles (16.02) at the WIC Girls’ Track and Field Meet. Won the same event at the Putnam County Meet. Finished second at the Terre Haute North Sectional (16.35). Finished sixth at the Bloomington North Regional (15.89).

Kylee Owens, Greencastle — Won the high jump (5-00) on jumps at the WIC Girls’ Track and Field Meet. Won the same event at the Putnam County Meet. Finished third on jumps at the Terre Haute North Sectional (5-03). Finished seventh on jumps at the Bloomington North Regional (5-02).

Olivia Stewart, North Putnam — Won the discus (98-03) at the WIC Girls’ Track and Field Meet. Finished third in the same event at the Putnam County Track Meet. Finished seventh at the Terre Haute North Sectional (93-01).
