County Jail

Two people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Friday

• At 12:11 a.m. Gary L. Patterson, 60, Westfield, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Thursday

• At 11:14 p.m. Jeffery L. Syrus, 70, Cloverdale, was booked in for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 7:24 p.m. Friday, Paula Lance, 62, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Angela Taylor.

Arrested at Putnam County Hospital after a reported confrontation with the staff there, Lance was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of battery.

• At 2:07 a.m. June 13, Christopher Smith, 31, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Justin Herd.

Taken into custody at Washington and Vine streets after reportedly discovered sleeping at the Greencastle Post Office, Smith was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.

One recent citation was issued by city officers:

• At 3:10 p.m. on Friday, Zachary Franklin, 28, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Stopped at Washington Street and Hammond Drive, Franklin was cited for having an expired license plate (April 28, 2022).

City Fire

Greencastle firefighters responded to five recent dispatches.

• At 4:27 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at Humbert Hall, 208 E. Olive St. The activated alarm was found on the third floor, though firefighters were unable to determine the problem. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 4:44 p.m.

• At 4:45 p.m., crews were called back to Humbert Hall for another alarm. This time it was determined the alarm was activated by hair spray. The system was reset and they returned to service at 5 p.m.

• At 1:39 p.m. on Friday, firefighters responded to Greencastle Middle School, 400 S. Percy Julian Dr. Upon arrival, they determined the alarm was due to construction. They returned to service at 1:59 p.m.

• At 12:01 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a lawnmower on fire at 700 Ravenwood Dr. Crews assisted with extinguishing the mower and returned to service at 12:12 p.m.

• At 12:34 p.m. on Sunday, firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Woodhaven Drive and South Street. Putnam County EMS was on the scene for medical care, so crews assisted with medical assessment of patients and cleared fluids and debris from the road. They were back in service at 1:37 p.m.

Firefighters also responded to 13 medical assists, as well as once being disregarded en route to a call.
