Barbara Lee Simon

Barbara Lee Simon, age 91, of Gosport passed away June 19, 2023.

Barbara was born at Franklin on Feb. 26, 1932 to Charles and Beulah (Stanton) Simon. The family moved to North Salem in 1941. Barbie went to North Salem Schools, graduating from high school in 1950.

She helped on the family farms until she moved to a farm in Quincy. Barbie went to work as a bookkeeper for Sharp Brothers, Oliver Farm Equipment in Indy. After 28 years at Sharp’s, she returned to farming. Barbie also had part-time jobs at Mill Grove store and H&R Block. Barbie then went to full-time work at Walmart in Spencer and Greencastle, along with farming. She worked at Walmart for 18 years, retiring at the age of 80.

Barbie’s son Calvin passed away at age 15, leaving a big hole in her heart.

Barbie is survived by her sister, Linda Hancock; nieces Nancy Doughty, Rhonda Lieske, Debra Wieking (Goddaughter) and Leslie Justice; nephews Denny Moore, Jeff and Mike Lieske, Charles and Steven Hancock and Lance, JP, Brian and Darryl Simon; stepnephews Gil, Joe and KY Wheeler; and sisters-in-law Linda and Wanda Simon.

Barbie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beulah; her son, Calvin; sisters Betty Lieske and Dorothy Moore and infant Zoe Donna; brothers John B, Charlie Bill and Gordon; nephews Gregg Lieske and David Simon; and stepnephew Tim Wheeler.

A special thank you to niece Rhonda Lieske for all her help in Barbie’s care.

Funeral services for Barbie will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service time of 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfuneralhome.net.
