Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent crashes.

• At 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Patricia M. Suits, 66, Greencastle, was stopped on Hospital Drive, waiting to turn north onto U.S. 231 in a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. Linda L. Standifer, 58, Terre Haute, was northbound on U.S. 231, preparing to turn left onto Hospital Drive in a 2019 Ford Escape.

As Standifer was making her turn, Suits failed to yield right-of-way and pulled into traffic, hitting the driver’s side door area of Standifer’s car.

Standifer told Deputy Kyle Lee she had some pain in her arm, but was on her way to the doctor anyway, and preferred to speak with her doctor on the matter.

Lee estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 12:02 a.m. on Monday, Greencastle Police Officer Justin L. Herd, 36, Bainbridge, arrived at the College Inn, 315 S. Bloomington St. on a call for service in a 2015 Ford Explorer.

Herd told Deputy Josh Clark he noticed a 2012 Dodge Journey that matched the call for service, exiting his vehicle and walking toward the driver’s side of the vehicle. As he did so, the driver, 60-year-old Sue A. Harris of Greencastle, began to back up and into Herd’s police vehicle.

Harris only told Clark that she has dementia and would provide no further information. She also told Deputy Robert Soilleux that she did not have her hearing aids and did not know anyone was trying to get her attention.

Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 1:59 a.m. on Sunday, Ronald E. Powers, 56, Vincennes, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban when he hit a deer.

• At 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, Katlyn Van Dam, 28, Indianapolis, was westbound out of a driveway at 2441 N. CR 550 East in a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic. Van Dam told Cpl. Brian Helmer she did not see any traffic approaching and pulled onto the road, colliding with the left rear tire of a southbound 2023 Freightliner MT 45G UPS truck driven by Christopher T. Turner, 53, Fortville.

The impact heavily damaged the front end of Van Dam’s vehicle but only flattened a tire of the UPS truck.

A witness told Helmer that she saw Van Dam’s vehicle traveling at a “pretty high clip” and that she did not clear the intersection before pulling out and hitting the UPS truck.

Helmer estimated damage at $50,000-$100,000. Van Dam’s vehicle was towed.
