County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 7:46 a.m. Jennifer R. Reidy, 44, Martinsville, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 1:46 a.m. Jessica D. Kincaid, 44, Spencer, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 12:58 a.m. Charles T.L. Nance, 19, Lamar, Md., was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated-refusal, reckless driving, transporting and possession of alcohol as a minor, being a minor in consumption of alcohol and an open container violation.

Friday

• At 4:46 p.m. Charity J. Weaver, 44, Poland, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 3:05 p.m. Seaaria L. Bendzsa, 21, Evansville, was taken into custody for forgery.

• At 9:45 a.m. Joshua A. Beikman, 20, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 8:59 a.m. Bobby K. Coffey Jr., 49, Brazil, was booked in for nonsupport of a dependent child.

• At 6:26 a.m. Terry L. Scruggs, 46, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a Marion County warrant.

• At 1:35 a.m. Dustin D. Leins, 44, Pittsford, Mich., was taken into custody for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

• At 1:24 a.m. Joyce E. Cinco, 33, Pittsford, Mich., was housed at the jail for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Thursday

• At 3:32 p.m. Dalton C. Perryman, 33, Martinsville, was booked in on a Morgan County warrant.

City Police

Five recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 10:39 a.m. Sunday, Casey C. Brown, 34, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Taken into custody at a Crown Street residence, Brown was housed at the Putnam County Jail for two counts of battery on law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

• At 4:19 a.m. Sunday, Bryan K. Box, 25, Greenville, Miss., was arrested by Officer Chris Helmer.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Box was lodged in the jail for driving while intoxicated and public intoxication. Box registered a blood-alcohol concentration of .163 percent under portable breathalyzer testing.

• At 8:07 p.m. Saturday, Cody J. McNew, 34, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Helmer.

Taken into custody at an East Washington Street residence, McNew was booked into the jail on a Hendricks County warrant for violation of probation on an original charge of possession of a narcotic drug along with charges of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, dealing in a Schedule I controlled substance, neglect of a dependent, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a syringe and resisting law enforcement.

• At 6:35 a.m. Thursday, Kallie Pruitt, 30, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Apprehended on the property of Ridpath Primary School, Pruitt was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 2:33 p.m. Thursday, Wesley January, 32, Brazil, was arrested by Officer DeWitt.

Taken into custody at a South Locust Street residence, January was apprehended on a Vigo County warrant for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Two recent summonses were issued by city officers:

• At 10:31 p.m. Wednesday, William Garvin, 64, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Justin Herd at Indianapolis Road and Longcastle Drive.

Garvin was given a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jerry Minnick, 55, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Jared McDaniel at Bloomington and Block streets.

Minnick was given a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent crashes.

• At 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, James T. Engle, 55, Russellville, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:41 a.m. on Sunday, Hallie R. Miller, 21, Reelsville, was eastbound on County Road 525 South near Houck Covered Bridge in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix when she hit a deer.

Deputy Patrick estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 10:15 p.m. on Friday, Maximilian Baker, 23, Lincoln, Neb., was westbound on State Road 240 in a 2004 Honda CR-V. Baker told Deputy David Bennett that he met an eastbound vehicle that failed to dim its lights and appeared to be left of center.

In order to avoid a collision, Baker steered to the right, not realizing there was no shoulder to the road. His passenger tires dropped off the road and the vehicle when down the embankment, rolling several times.

A witness who was driving behind Baker gave a statement matching Baker’s report of the incident.

Baker was transported to Hendricks Regional in Danville to be checked out for injuries to his head. The vehicle was towed.

Bennett estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to five dispatches since Thursday:

• At 9:35 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at Breadworks by Bridges, 2 E. Walnut St. Crews arrived to find the alarm was set off due to heat from the oven. The alarm was reset and they returned to service at 9:37 a.m.

• At 10:25 a.m. on Friday, crews were called to a report of a motor vehicle crash at 3392 S. U.S. 231. Upon arrival, they found no vehicle or crash. They cleared the scene at 10:43 a.m.

• At 1:58 p.m. on Friday, GFD assisted with a rescue effort at Fern Cliff Nature Preserve, 6488 W. CR 375 South. They remained on the scene until 4:45 p.m. Full coverage of this rescue is available on page 1A of today’s newspaper.

• At 5:31 p.m. on Friday, firefighters responded to a motor vehicle crash at Woods Edge Boulevard and South Zinc Mill Road. They cleaned up fluid and debris, returning to service at 5:48 p.m.

• At 4:24 a.m. on Monday, crews investigated a fire alarm at 406 S. Indiana St. There was a DePauw University cleaning crew in the building upon the arrival of firefighters, who determined the alarm was set off due to cleaning. They returned to service at 4:33 a.m.

Firefighters also responded to 11 medical calls and one other dispatch in which they were canceled en route.
