Barcus (the band)

The next concert of the 2023 Parkfest lineup is set for Tuesday, with Barcus (the band) opening the evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Robe-Ann Park bandshell, followed by Black Market Vinyl.

Barcus (the band) consists of brothers Connor (guitar, vocals) and Fischer Barcus (drums). The two began playing together after attending DIY shows in Bloomington. They played their first show last year at Greencastle Parkfest and have since played more shows in Bloomington.

Connor also plays lead guitar in the Bloomington-based band, The Reys. Barcus (the band)’s style of music is a mix of indie rock and emo punk with a hint of folk and country. Some of their biggest influences are American Football, Jeff Rosenstock, Oso Oso and Wilco.

Recently, the Barcus brothers have pursued recording to release a record soon.

Black Market Vinyl

Black Market Vinyl is original music born of musicians who can’t keep their mitts off of Grandpappy’s record collection. Delta blues, New Orleans swing, gospel revival and some leftover teeth from last night’s bar fight combine into a fiery concoction of diabolical ear worms.

It’s a lot like Grandpappy used to say about his sour corn mash: “It’s gonna burn a little bit, but it sure do make you feel good all over.”

The band is composed of Wednesday Rees on vocals and tamborine; Matt Rees on vocals and lead guitar; Joel Ruff on vocals, rhythm guitar and harmonica; Will Ripperger on bass guitar; Beth Benedix on piano; and Shem Rees percussion.

Parkfest takes place each Tuesday in June and July, except July 4. Other performers this summer include, July 11: Justin Monts, Perpetual Journey; July 18: Him & Her, Danny Martin and the Danocasters; and July 25 (family night): Blue Flame, Bluebird Collective.
