Thursday storm knocks out power, leaves damage in wake
A Thursday afternoon storm rolled through Putnam County and much of Central Indiana, knocking out power for much of the county as well as downing limbs and trees throughout the area.
A severe thunderstorm warning shortly before 3 p.m. warned of winds up to 80 mph, and was soon fulfilled as high winds, rain and storms rolled in shortly after 3.
Much of Greencastle was soon without power, as Duke energy reported thousands in the area with an outage.
Though the original estimate was for a 9:30 p.m. restoration, power was back on for much of the city by shortly after 4 p.m.
Some areas of the city, as well as Duke customers along U.S. 40 and in the Cloverdale and Fillmore areas remained without power as of 6 p.m.
Likewise, most Parke County REMC customers in Putnam County also remained without power as of 6 p.m. Hendricks Power Cooperative also reported nearly all of its Putnam customers without power at that time.
City, county and state road crews were out throughout the area taking care of trees and limbs across roadways. There were also several reports of trees on houses and other property, though assessment remained in progress as of press time.
