Greencastle bands and choirs complete successful year
Greencastle Middle School and High School bands and choirs recently completed a successful 2022-23 school year.
The GMS/GHS music department is run by two directors. Annette Munoz-Thede is the band director, and Ross Hanson is the choir director.
Throughout the school year the bands and choirs had a total of eight concerts at GMS/GHS, a choir performance by the GHS Classics at an Indianapolis Indians game, the GHS band performed at IU Band Day, the eighth-grade choir performed at an Indy Fuel game and the GHS band performed at all home football and basketball games supporting GHS teams.
Additionally, both band and choir students had a very successful ISSMA Solo and ensemble contest with 80-plus entries at the district level and more than 20 entries at the state level.
Greencastle Middle School and High School bands and choirs received all gold ratings at ISSMA Organizational Festivals this year, with seven groups participating. Greencastle Middle School bands and choirs competed on March 10 and 11 at Monrovia High School/Avon Middle School, and the Greencastle High School band and choir competed on April 15 at Northview High School/North Clay Middle School. The students worked for more than three months on challenging literature of many styles, genres and languages. The students were up for the challenge and succeeded.
