INDOT announces restriction on 240 for milling and paving

Tuesday, July 11, 2023

The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced new, ongoing restrictions on State Road 240 heading east out of Greencastle.

Crews will be milling and paving portions of S.R. 240 between U.S. 231 and County Road 475 East. Traffic will be controlled by a flagging operation and/or will be moved to the road shoulders as needed.

The restrictions are expected to last through early October, weather permitting.

This contract was awarded to Calumet Civil Contractors Inc. for more than $4.4 million. It involves pavement restoration and an HMA overlay. The entire contract is expected to be completed in October 2024, weather permitting.

INDOT reminds motorists to slow down, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through work zones.

Nit I don't know about since it opened I was too young lol but last I looked there was a sign marking it as such and INDOT plows it from the intersection with 231 to indianapolis rd whereas the city plows from 231 to Jackson st. Also its marked as 240 on Google maps as well.

  • IN 240 used to go all the way to the intersection of Bloomington (US 231) and Washington St., but once the Southern Highway, as it was called when it was constructed, was done then IN 240 went to the intersection of this new roadway with Bloomington St. (US 231) on the south side of town. Veteran's Memorial Highway is actually the city owned stretch of the roadway west of 231 to Jackson St. Indianapolis Road is now a city street from Wood Street east to York's.

  • Thanks for the clarification. Sure is a confusing mess to we old timers who knew ‘Veterans Memorial Highway’ as the ‘Pensy Railroad’ tracks.
