Adam McMickle

A shuffling of positions in the guidance department at Greencastle High School ended with a new director of student services being named Monday.

The Greencastle School Board approved the hire of Adam McMickle to the position that was formerly known as director of guidance.

“He has an administrative license, doesn’t have a counseling license, thus it’s not the director of guidance position,” Supt. Jeff Gibboney explained. “We’re really excited for Adam to work with our counselors, our counseling department and our parents and students to help us build out our counseling program at the high school.”

McMickle comes to Greencastle following two years with the Indiana Department of Education.

“He has a wealth of experience. Currently he’s employed at the IDOE as a social studies content specialist,” Gibboney explained. “He’s help around the state with things such as the standards review, helped oversee the early learning intervention grant, was responsible for overseeing course titles and descriptions for K-12, so he has a lot of knowledge and experience that we think will be beneficial to our students and staff in the pathways, career and workforce.

“So we’re just excited to have him join our staff here.”

Prior to his time with IDOE, McMickle served in classroom and administrative positions for Indianapolis Public Schools.

“First I want to say I am honored to be the new director of student services at Greencastle High School,” McMickle said. For the previous two years I have worked at the Indiana Department of Education serving as the social studies specialist. Before joining the Indiana Department of Education I taught middle school social studies at Emma Donnan Elementary and Middle School, where I also served as an instructional coach and middle school dean.

“My wife Ashley and I have been married for 16 years, and we have two sons, Landon and Harmon, who both attend Avon Schools,” he added. “I look forward to working with the students, staff and families of Greencastle High School.

The position McMickle is taking opened in June when Rose Stephens was transferred from guidance counselor to math teacher at GHS and Kevein Kendall was transferred from guidance director to guidance counselor.

The board also formally accepted the resignation of Jennifer Rhoades as principal of Tzouanakis Intermediate School, effective June 30. Though Rhoades’ resignation had not been directly addressed in a board meeting before Monday, she turned in her letter late last month, and her replacement, Lisa Eldridge, was actually named last week.

The board also approved a number of other personnel items:

Resignations: Joanna Muncie as Deer Meadow home-school liaison, Alison Nevins as GHS special services teacher, Brittany Mulryan as Ridpath instructional assistant, Sarah Burdine as Tzouanakis instructional assistant, Trisha Smallwood as Tzouanakis instructional assistant and substitue custodian.

New hires: Mark Thurow as GHS English teacher, Parker Black as GHS English teacher, Destinee Call as Deer Meadow pre-school instructional assistant, Michael Bardales as GHS custodian, Ashley Crady as Tiger Cub Club afterschool program site coordinator.

Transfer: Connie Pierce from substitute custodian to GHS and GMS part-time custodian.

Additional duties: Whitney Reeder as GMS summer school fab lab teacher, Angela Wood as Tiger Cub Club afterschool program instructor at Tzouanakis, Rebecca McPherson as ESSER grant administrator.

Substitutes: Heather Fauber as GHS substitute custodian, Misty Davis as substitute bus driver.

Extracurricular activities: Christopher Scott and Mark Hernandez Sr. hired as GHS assistant football coaches, Margaret Meyer hired as GHS assistant volleyball coach; Jalyn Duff approved as GHS volunteer assistant girls’ basketball coach, Ben Wilkerson approved as GHS volunteer assistant boys’ soccer coach.

  • Sounds like a lofty title and adds to the administrative costs of the School Corporation with no Guidance Counselor credentials for the individual hired.

The previous Guidance Director was demoted to a Guidance Counselor position.

For a School Corporation the size of Greencastle, how many "Guidance Counselors" does the Corporation currently employ?

  • Thank you Banner Graphic for reporting on public meetings, providing citizens with information without attending.

GCSC actually has a YouTube channel with all of the board meetings recorded.

Here is the link to the July meeting, only 24 minutes. It is just like being in the audience.

  • However many guidance counselors the corporation employs, it isn’t enough. Counselors deal more with testing than they actually get to counsel students. They need more, not fewer counselors. The superintendent’s office needs a new leader.

  • "Moretothestory":

I agree with your comment, "The superintendent's office needs a new leader."

I would further state the Board needs to be elected. Last time I checked the Greencastle Board is only one of five in the state of Indiana that is appointed.

After watching the youtube video of the 7/24 24 minute meeting, was not impressed. No input by any board member, President rarely called for discussion after a motion was made and 2nd before the vote.

All participants seemed to be in a euphoric mood with everything going perfectly in the school corporation.

  • Why is local the only good choice? Outside perspectives bring real value.

Who cares if they leave in 2 years? If they make us better, then that is a positive.

On the other side, if a local fails and has to be let go, how awful.

    Don't promote beyond capabilities!
